Islamabad : ReNews Pakistan
The Federal Government Employees Housing Authority (FGEHA) has directed officials to clear all remaining obstacles and initiate development work on the long delayed Green Enclave-I Housing Scheme in Bhara Kahu, Islamabad, within one month.
The directive was issued during a meeting of the FGEHA Executive Board chaired by Federal Minister for Housing and Works Mian Riaz Hussain Pirzada, as the government moved to address persistent delays that have prevented development of the housing scheme from progressing as planned.
During the meeting, the minister expressed serious concern over the prolonged delay and instructed the relevant officials to resolve outstanding issues within four weeks so that physical development work on the project could begin.
Pirzada noted that the stalled scheme has repeatedly drawn attention in Parliament and the media, while allottees awaiting development of their plots have raised their concerns at several forums, including the Federal Ombudsman’s Office.
The minister stressed the need for an early resolution of the issues holding back the project and called for concrete progress instead of further delays.
Green Enclave-I was launched by FGEHA several years ago as part of its housing initiatives for federal government employees and other eligible allottees. However, development of the scheme has remained stalled despite efforts to move the project forward.
The authority entered into a construction agreement in 2019, but subsequent disagreements relating to contractual terms, execution of development work and revised security costs created complications that prevented the project from proceeding according to schedule.
The latest direction gives the relevant authorities a four-week timeframe to remove these hurdles and create the conditions necessary for development work to commence.
Restarting development could provide relief to allottees who have been waiting for progress on the scheme and have repeatedly sought intervention from government institutions over the delays.
The Executive Board meeting also considered development proposals concerning FGEHA’s other housing schemes.
Officials discussed a proposal for the establishment of a boarding school and a hospital in the Sky Garden Housing Scheme, also known as Green Enclave-II. The proposed educational and healthcare facilities are being considered under a revenue-sharing model.
The initiative, if taken forward, would expand the social infrastructure available within the housing scheme and provide educational and healthcare facilities for residents and surrounding communities.
Separately, the Executive Board reviewed management cost issues associated with the Margalla Orchard Scheme.
To examine the matter in greater detail, the board constituted a committee headed by the Joint Secretary Finance. The committee has been tasked with reviewing the management cost-related issues and submitting its findings and recommendations to the authority.
The decisions indicate a broader push by FGEHA to resolve outstanding administrative and development issues across its housing portfolio, with immediate attention focused on ending the prolonged stalemate surrounding Green Enclave-I and getting development work underway.
