Islamabad | ReNews Pakistan
The Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (MCI), in collaboration with the National Information Technology Board (NITB), has shifted several key public facing municipal services to the PAK App as part of a broader initiative to modernise civic administration in the federal capital.
The new digital system is aimed at transforming the traditional method of municipal service delivery by providing citizens, businesses and other stakeholders with mobile-based access to essential services. The initiative is designed to reduce reliance on physical government offices and introduce a more convenient, transparent and efficient system of dealing with municipal matters.
Under the new arrangement, services including advertising permissions, open space permissions, parking permits, generator licences and other municipal approvals and related facilities will gradually be made accessible through the PAK App.
Applicants will be able to submit their requests digitally, provide the required information and upload supporting documents through their mobile phones. They will also be able to monitor the progress of their applications and receive updates without having to repeatedly visit MCI offices.
The system also provides for electronic payments, enabling applicants to complete relevant financial transactions through digital channels. In addition, users will have access to documented procedures and information regarding the services, helping them understand requirements and follow standardised processes.
MCI said the digitisation of municipal services would significantly reduce paperwork, physical visits and unnecessary intermediary involvement. By introducing standardised digital procedures, the system is expected to make the process of obtaining municipal approvals more transparent, predictable and accessible.
The initiative is also expected to improve the corporation's internal administrative capacity. Electronic record-keeping will allow MCI to maintain more organised and easily traceable records, while digital workflow management can help officials monitor applications and improve the overall speed of service delivery.
The digital system is further expected to strengthen accountability by creating electronic trails for applications and transactions. Improved monitoring of cases could also assist authorities in identifying delays, managing workloads and responding more effectively to public complaints.
For citizens and businesses, the move could particularly reduce the time and cost associated with conventional counter-based services. Instead of submitting applications manually and making multiple visits to government offices, users will increasingly be able to complete municipal procedures remotely.
The platform also includes grievance redressal channels, providing applicants with digital avenues to raise complaints or seek assistance regarding their applications and municipal services.
The MCI and NITB are working to expand technology enabled public service delivery as part of a wider programme to modernise Islamabad's civic administration. The initiative reflects the federal capital's gradual transition towards smart governance, in which digital platforms are increasingly being used to improve access to government services.
Officials expect the continued digitisation of municipal functions to improve institutional efficiency, record management, transparency and accountability while making civic services more citizen centric.
The move is being viewed as another step towards developing Islamabad as a digitally enabled and smart capital, with technology playing a greater role in the delivery, monitoring and management of municipal services.
