Development Authority (CDA) has announced plans to develop Pakistan’s first world class wildlife safari destination in Islamabad, unveiling an ambitious project that combines wildlife conservation, eco tourism and family recreation within the natural landscape of the federal capital.
The proposed safari park will be established over approximately 350 acres in the Malpur Forestry Park area near Bara Kahu and Murree Road. According to CDA officials, the selected site consists of natural forest land, and the development has been carefully designed to preserve the existing ecosystem, biodiversity and wildlife habitats. Authorities have emphasized that the project will be executed without causing environmental degradation while promoting sustainable tourism.
The project's feasibility study and conceptual design have already been completed, allowing the initiative to move into the tendering phase before construction begins.
Under the master plan, the safari park will accommodate approximately 3,605 animals distributed across 10 dedicated safari and wildlife sanctuary zones, each designed to closely replicate natural habitats for different species.
The largest attraction will be a 1,000 kanal Ungulate Safari, where visitors will experience open range wildlife viewing through guided safari tours, nature trails and a unique glass soft wheel safari train offering panoramic views of the park.
A separate 180 kanal Big Cat Zone will house lions, tigers, bears, hyenas and African wild dogs, with specially designed enclosures that meet international animal welfare standards. Another 340 kanals have been allocated for wildlife sanctuaries featuring species such as elephants, rhinoceroses, crocodiles and hippopotamuses.
To support wildlife conservation, the project also includes a 100 kanal Wildlife Care Complex equipped with international standard veterinary hospitals, treatment facilities, quarantine centres and a dedicated Safari Park Veterinary Clinic for the care and rehabilitation of animals.
Visitor facilities form another major component of the development. The master plan proposes a Safari Pavilion for ticketing and visitor information, alongside a 400 kanal Safari Village featuring safari lodges, restaurants, recreational spaces and accommodation designed to enhance the tourism experience.
A dedicated 50 kanal Safari Food Street, directly connected to Murree Road, will feature a variety of themed restaurants and cafés, including Safari Grill, Jungle Bites, Baobab Café, Wild Wraps and Bushman's Kitchen, creating a distinctive dining destination within the park.
The central recreational area will include an immersive digital wildlife museum, jungle themed play zones, koi fish ponds, landscaped sitting areas and an adventure zipline. Visitors will also enjoy a one kilometre elevated Forest Canopy Walk, offering panoramic views of the surrounding forest ecosystem while promoting environmental education and biodiversity awareness through interactive exhibits.
Additional attractions proposed under the project include a 10 kanal natural lake, scenic bridge walks, dedicated safari tours, a two kilometre safari chairlift, and several eco tourism experiences designed to position Islamabad as one of South Asia's leading nature based tourism destinations.
CDA officials believe the landmark initiative will not only strengthen wildlife conservation and environmental awareness but also transform Islamabad into a premier international eco tourism destination capable of attracting both domestic and foreign visitors while supporting sustainable urban recreation and biodiversity protection.
