The Punjab government has formally launched a unique free housing project for the working class, under which 720 labourer families have become owners of their flats. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the project by handing over keys and allotment letters to the workers.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif attended the ceremony held under the Punjab Employees Social Security Institution, PESSI, for the provision of 720 flats. During the ceremony, she was briefed on the free flats project and other ongoing initiatives of the Labour Department.
According to officials, special priority has been given to widows and persons with disabilities in the Sundar Estate Flats Project. A documentary highlighting various programmes of the Punjab Labour Department and welfare measures for workers was also presented during the event.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif handed over allotment letters and keys of the flats to labourers free of cost. Under the widow category, Sonia Pervaiz received the allotment letter and keys of a flat, while hearing impaired Yasir Hanif and polio survivor Farhan Ali were also given allotment letters and keys for free flats.
Similarly, Muhammad Wasif, Shahadat Ali, Abida Ali, Kausar Bibi, senior worker Victor Hector and Muhammad Ashfaq Ahmed, among other workers, were also given allotment letters and keys. Labourer families appeared visibly delighted after receiving their homes.
Congratulating the worker families on getting their own homes, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif said labourers are friends of Allah. “Congratulations on having your own roof, your own home and your own house,” she said. She added that the welfare of the working class remains among the government’s top priorities.
Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Labour Minister Manshaullah Butt said the Punjab Labour Department was once considered an unnoticed department, but in 1988 Muhammad Nawaz Sharif introduced revolutionary measures for labourers. He said having a roof over one’s head is every worker’s dream, and Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has turned that dream into reality.
Manshaullah Butt said Maryam Nawaz Sharif is the country’s first chief minister to provide free flats to labourers. He added that the project is not merely about housing for the working class, but also an important step toward dignity, protection and economic security.

DHA Peshawar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Royal Saddle & Shot Club to develop a dedicated Horse Riding and Skeet Shooting Club within DHA Peshawar. The agreement was announced on September 15, 2026.

Under the Punjab Private Educational Institutions Act 2026, tuition centres run from homes, including those operated by women and girls, along with small coaching centres and neighbourhood academies, will now be recognised as private educational institutions.
The amended law states that buildings and properties used by these institutions will fall under the property tax regime, while electricity and water connections will be treated as commercial.
Small private schools operating in residential areas will also come under the tax system, regardless of whether they are registered or unregistered.
The decision has received criticism from the All Pakistan Private Schools Colleges Association, which has called for the withdrawal of the amendment.
The association said the move could particularly affect women and girls who provide home based tuition to a limited number of students to support their household incomes.
It added that treating small scale tuition centres as commercial establishments could increase property and utility related expenses and create additional pressure on low income families.
The association has urged the Punjab government to reconsider commercial taxes and property related charges on home based tuition centres.

Videos circulating across YouTube, Facebook and other platforms show sleek compact homes carrying Tesla branding and claim that Elon Musk’s company is offering an ultra affordable house equipped with futuristic technology.
Some versions of the viral claim go even further, promising buyers free land and freedom from property taxes.
There is one major problem: Tesla does not sell the house.
The viral story appears to combine several unrelated pieces of real and fabricated material. One source of confusion is Tesla’s 2017 Tiny House demonstration project in Australia, a mobile display created to showcase the company’s solar panels and Powerwall energy storage system. The demonstration unit was never offered as a residential product for sale.
Other viral videos have incorporated imagery associated with Boxabl, a genuine American prefabricated housing company that has previously attracted attention because of its reported connection with Elon Musk.
Artificial intelligence generated images and video sequences have also been used to create futuristic Tesla branded houses that appear convincing enough to attract millions of viewers.
Reports tracking the misinformation say videos promoting the supposed $7,999 Tesla home accumulated more than 120 million views over several months, demonstrating how quickly an attractive property story can spread when a famous technology brand, an extraordinarily low price and futuristic architecture are combined.
The episode has also highlighted a growing challenge for the property industry: as artificial intelligence makes fabricated buildings increasingly realistic, social media audiences may find it harder to distinguish genuine property launches from fictional designs and misleading promotional content.
For now, the viral $7,999 Tesla Tiny House remains an internet sensation , but not a home anyone can actually order from Tesla.

More than 6,000 used milk bottles, along with other discarded plastic, were incorporated into a road project at East China University of Science and Technology in 2021.
