Despite repeated government claims of promoting sports, youth development, and healthy recreational activities, the ground reality in Chunian presents a completely different picture. While many regions across the world continue to develop modern sports infrastructure equipped with quality playing surfaces, spectator seating, clean drinking water, locker rooms, and proper sanitation facilities, Chunian remains deprived of even the most basic sports amenities.
The most visible example of this neglect is Satluj Stadium Chunian, once envisioned as a center for local sports activities but now standing as a symbol of official indifference and administrative negligence. Constructed with public funds, the stadium has failed to receive the maintenance and development required to serve the growing needs of local athletes.
Currently, the stadium lacks almost every essential facility needed for a functional sports complex. There are no proper toilets for players and visitors, no clean drinking water, no seating arrangements for spectators, and no locker rooms where athletes can safely keep their sports equipment. The ground itself remains poorly maintained, with little attention given to improving its playing conditions.
Local youth, particularly cricket players, continue to use the ground through self-management and personal effort, receiving virtually no institutional support. Other sports such as football, hockey, athletics, and indoor games have no dedicated spaces or training facilities, severely limiting opportunities for young talent to grow and compete.
The issue becomes even more serious considering that nearby densely populated areas including Ellahabad, Changa Manga, and Kanganpur do not have proper sports grounds at all. As a result, thousands of young people are left without constructive recreational spaces, forcing many to spend their time in unhealthy and unproductive environments.
Sports experts and local residents believe that well-maintained grounds play a critical role not only in physical fitness but also in mental well-being, social engagement, and protection against harmful activities such as drug abuse and street violence. They argue that if the government truly wishes to address rising health concerns and social challenges, investment in sports infrastructure must become a practical priority rather than a policy statement.
Citizens have urged the district administration and sports authorities to immediately restore Satluj Stadium by installing basic facilities, maintaining green playing fields, and introducing regular sports programs. They also called for the establishment of modern sports grounds across surrounding areas to provide youth with healthy opportunities and revive the sporting culture of the region.

Hundreds of acres of government-owned vacant land in Chunian remain unused despite multiple development proposals over the past several years, including the recently announced Aqua Business Park project.
According to available details, the land was initially approved for an industrial zone, and partial boundary wall construction was also completed. However, the site was later declared unsuitable for industrial development, leaving the project incomplete.
Subsequently, proposals were presented to establish a university campus on the same land, but that initiative also failed to move toward practical implementation.
In early 2026, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced plans to utilize the government land for an Aqua Business Park focused on shrimp and fish farming, aimed at promoting investment, aquaculture, and employment opportunities in the region.
Despite the announcement, local residents say that practical development work on the proposed Aqua Business Park has yet to begin, while the large tract of public land continues to remain largely unutilized.
Citizens believe that proper utilization of the land through organized planning and investment could significantly improve economic activity, create jobs, and support development in Chunian, which is considered one of the oldest yet comparatively underdeveloped tehsils of district Kasur.
Public circles have urged authorities to accelerate implementation of approved projects and ensure effective use of government land for long-term economic and urban development.

The National Accountability Bureau has decided to introduce an Online Property Information System to prevent fraud, illegal sales and deception of citizens in private housing societies.
According to sources, NAB has sought approved layout plans of housing societies across Punjab, while all relevant development authorities have been directed to provide approved records so they can be made part of the new online system.
In a letter sent by NAB to the Secretary of the Punjab Housing Department, it has been stated that the SOPs, approved layout plans and relevant official records of housing societies will be linked with the NAB portal. The purpose of this initiative is to inform citizens about the legal status of any housing society before they invest or purchase a plot.
Sources said that through the new Online Property Information System, people will be able to access approved maps, layout plans and legal status details of housing societies established in different districts across the province. The system will help protect citizens from investing in unapproved or disputed housing projects.
Officials said complaints related to private housing societies have become a serious issue. These complaints include the sale of illegal files, booking of plots beyond the approved area, non provision of basic facilities and delays in projects after collecting money from citizens.
According to NAB, the implementation of the online system will promote transparency in the housing sector, while citizens will be able to easily access verified information about any society. The initiative will not only improve public confidence but also help make action against illegal housing societies and elements involved in fraud more effective.
